Windows 10 Build 10122

Microsoft released a new build for Windows 10. If you are in the fast ring to get the preview bits, it will automatically update to the latest build.

This is how you would configure your Windows 10 to be in the Fast Ring

Open Settings and click Update and Security

Task view in Windows 10

The new Task View option displays all the apps/applications opened in your Windows 10 device and allows you to switch between these application faster and more efficiently. Furthermore the task view option enable you to create multiple desktops to keep oneself more organized. For example, you can have one desktop created for Work and one for personal. In my case I have created a desktop for emails and another for R&D

Cortana in Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 10074

Cortana the new Personal Assistant integrated in to Windows. She can search the web, find things on your computer, set meetings and reminders, etc. Cortana has a new facelift and some new features in Windows 10 Insider Preview build 10074.

A new feature in this build is when you state “Hey Cortana” cortana starts automatically. This feature is disabled by default and to enable, within the start screen switch the following on

Once you enable the above option you will have to click on learn my voice button. This will take you through 6 sentences you have to read so that Cortana can recognize your voice.

By Clicking the arrows circled in red the start menu will be maximized to the desktop as below

To restore the maximized start menu click the arrows circled in red. Comparing to the previous preview versions of Windows 10, Microsoft has reintroduced the Aero Glass effect in Windows 7. This Aero effect gives the see through effect for the start menu and the task bar

Download the ISO from http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/preview-iso

Boot from CD or ISO

Select your regional settings and click next

Click Install

Accept the EULA and click Next

Select your installation option. I selected the Custom option as this is a new computer

Windows 10 Editions

It is been announced that Windows 10 will be released this summer in 190 countries covering 111 languages. Windows 10 will be available for a broad range of devices, ranging from PC’s, tablets, phones, XBox, etc with a single Windows Store containing universal apps which can be installed on any of the above devices.

On the 13th of May 2015 Microsoft has announced the following editions of Windows 10 that its planning to release this summer. Like in the past, Windows 10 will be released in different editions to suite for different devices and audience.

1) Windows 10 Home : This is the consumer focused edition. It will include the below and many other features

      • Cortana
      • Microsoft Edge Web Browser (code named Spartan)
      • Tablet mode
      • Windows Hello bio metric authentication
      • Access to universal Windows Store Apps

2) Windows 10 Mobile : This is focused on to smartphones and small tablets. It will include the below and many other features

      • Access to universal Windows Store Apps
      • New touch optimized version of Office
      • The Continuum of Phone feature

3) Windows 10 Pro : this edition is focused on SMB and for PC’s and tablets. it contains all the features of Windows 10 Home and certain additional features benefitting a business environment.

      • More support for cloud technologies
      • Mobile productivity scenarios
      • Windows Update for Business which gives more control over Windows Updates

Microsoft will provide the above 3 editions as free upgrade to existing and qualifying users of Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 devices during the first year after the launch.

4) Windows Enterprise : Targeted at Microsoft Volume Licensing Customers with enterprise grade features. it contains all the features of Windows 10 Pro and certain additional features benefitting a business environment.

      • Advanced security options
      • OS Deployment and App management
      • Windows Update for Business
      • Long Term Servicing Branch

5) Windows 10 Education : Built on top of Windows 10 Enterprise to meet the needs of schools, staff and teachers.

6) Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise : Designed for business customers on smartphones and tablets. Security and device management will be key features comparing to its counterpart Windows 10 Mobile.
